Unlike the zari-worked weaves before it, Khaddar-e-Clair carries no metallic thread at all — its pattern comes purely from the weave itself. Small clustered dobby motifs run in diagonal rows across a fine, open crosshatch ground, self-toned in ivory-on-ivory so the design surfaces only through texture and light, not color contrast. The khaddi spun yarn gives the cloth a matte, slightly nubby hand-feel and a semi-sheer, breathable body — noticeably lighter and looser in weave than the Banarasi silks, with a soft crumple-drape rather than a structured one.
